Since the adoption of the Recommendation on Open Educational Resources which seeks to, among other objectives, foster quality and inclusive education through support to the creation, adaptation, use and distribution of open education resources, the pace as well as approaches to its implementation have been uneven among countries in West Africa due to several contextual factors (socio-professional, economic, technology and political) that, despite several initiatives, coalesce to impede on the dynamic.

UNESCO, through its office in West Africa Sahel, has been collaborating with several stakeholders (higher education institutions, ministries of education, curriculum development institutions, teacher training institutions, NGOs, etc.) to trigger support the operationalization of the recommendation in the region. The presentation seeks to share the experience of the past two years by highlighting some of the challenges and opportunities for OER integration.
